Asia Pacific Physical Activity Network (APPAN)

The Centre for Physical Activity and Health (CPAH), based at the University of Sydney, is an academic research group interested in physical activity and public health. With the involvement of the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), APPAN is currently working towards the development of a physical activity network in the Asia Pacific Region.

Food & Agricultural Organisation

The FAO has a mandate to raise levels of nutrition and standards of living, to improve agricultural productivity, and to better the condition of rural populations.

Healthy Living in the Pacific Islands (HLPI)

The goal of the HLPI initiative is to reduce the disparity in prevalence of chronic diseases by respecting cultural values using community based, holistic, collaborative, sustainable approaches in Pacific Island communities. The initiative works with project staff from the Marshall Islands Ministry of Health and Environment, and the Land Grant institutions in American Samoa, Chuuk (Federated States of Micronesia), Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Guam, Hawaii and Palau in a partnership with ADAP (Agricultural Development in the American Pacific).

OCEANIA FOODS Group

This is a regional group of the International Network of Food Data Systems (INFOODS), working to facilitate interaction and collaboration amongst the three regional members - Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

Pacific Islands Nutrition and Dietetic Association (PINDA)

PINDA is a non-government, non-profit making regional organisation committed to support and promote the professional needs of its members and maintain a high standard of nutrition services in the region in order to improve the well-being of Pacific Islanders and residents. Early in 2005, it was decided by the membership of PINDA to suspend the activities of the association, until such a time as the members were able to dedicate sufficient time to ensure its success.

The United Nations Children's Fund has a mandate to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. [Website]

Western Pacific Declaration on Diabetes

The founding partners of the WPDD are the International Diabetes Federation /Western Pacific Region (IDF/WPR) and World Health Organization /Western Pacific Regional Office (WHO/WPRO), in collaboration with SPC. This strategic alliance creates a regional movement which addresses the crippling and ever increasing burden of diabetes among the peoples of the Western Pacific Region. [Website]

World Health Organisation

The objective of WHO is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health, as defined in the WHO Constitution, is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The SPC region is part of the Western Pacific Region.[Website]
