This document follows on from a meeting in 2000 in Apia, Samoa (Workshop on obesity prevention and control strategies in the Pacific) that reviewed the current obesity situation in the region and tried to identify effective strategies for obesity control that could be taken by all countries. It is hoped that this document will be used around the region to advocate for obesity projects, obesity funding and other resources and to highlight the need for action in this area. It can also be used to share information about the health risks of obesity. (PDF 800ko)

The Fruits We Eat

Because of their warm, tropical climate, almost all Pacific Islands are blessed with a delicious abundance of tropical fruits almost all the year round. This manual explores common fruits such as bananas and mango, and less common ones such as the lychee and tamarind. This handbook briefly describes and discusses fruits in the Pacific, their nutritional value, composition and their non-nutritional roles, which include medicinal purposes. There are some sample recipes included also.
