Call for submissions for NCD small grants scheme applications

We are pleased to announce that round one of our small grants scheme has been made available through the Pacific Framework for Non-communicable Disease Prevention and Control (NCD Framework) with funding support from our development partners the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and the New Zealand Agency for International Development (NZAID).

The purpose of the NCD Framework is to assist Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs) to improve the health of their populations by establishing sustainable initiatives to combat NCDs and associated risk factors in their populations.

A key strategy within the NCD Framework is the support of NCD activities at the national level. To this end, the SPC Healthy Pacific Lifestyle (HPL) Section’s small grants scheme focuses on NCD prevention and control at the community level, targeting small projects with direct benefit to the communities and the health and well-being of the local population, specifically relating to NCDs.

Funds available through this scheme aim to support projects focusing on prevention and control of NCDs through the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The focus of the small grant scheme will be on the following areas:

  • Community level projects or projects that focus on community participation

  • Projects that focus on aspects of the implementation of the national NCD plan

  • Projects that focus on a policy or legislative change and/or advocacy and empowerment

  • Projects involving social marketing and/or development of key information, education and communication resources

  • Pilot projects focusing on NCD prevention that have identified funding for continuation or expansion following successful completion of the pilot

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be government bodies or recognised non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in their country of origin.

  • All SPC member PICTs are eligible except those already in receipt of a country grant (Funding Stream I, i.e. Nauru, Vanuatu and Tonga) from the NCD Framework.

Other restrictions:

  • The maximum number of grants to be awarded in one year is restricted to three (3) per PICT and one (1) per organisation.
  • The maximum amount to be awarded for any one grant is AUD 10,000

We are now inviting round one applications for our small grants scheme for 2009. Please download the form from this link and email the completed form to the address below.

Applications will close on 29 May 2009. All successful applicants will be notified once the decision is made.
