School & Community Outreach Activities
This was a visit to the islands of Wotje Atoll which is one of the more populated atolls in the Marshall Islands and is home to a boarding high school. With the help and support of the chief and landowners a team from YTYIH was able to successfully complete a week-long outreach and training program on Wotje, from October 19 through October 26.
Girls retreat : General Educational Development
As part of the GED Program, the Director requested for YTYIH to attend and participate in the retreat for girls in the program, which took place at the College of the Marshall Islands (CMI) campus in Arrak. Arrak is a community close to Laura on the other end of the atoll. This presentation was a continuation of the ongoing cooperation between YTYIH and the GED program. YTYIH staff present information on STIs, HIV/AIDS, and other issues affecting Marshallese youth to all students in the GED program.
Young Mothers’ “meet and discuss”
This program was coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs as part of a program focused on “Child and womens’ rights”. The objective of the training was to work with unemployed teen mothers to teach them useful life skills and to teach about issues related to reproductive health. Topics included skills such as sewing baby clothes, handicraft making, and information about teen pregnancy and contraceptive use.
