  •  Sea Cucumber

Ongoing research is being conducted by the government fisheries department in the hatchery production and rearing of white teatfish sea cucumber (Holothuria fuscogilva).

The breeding of white teat fish has been successfully carried out in the country through the pioneering output of OFCF technical expert.

So far there are approximately 120,000 juveniles (young) of sea cucumber that have been reared and released in Tarawa and Abaiang.

The hatchery's main objective is to maximise the production of the two species for restocking the inshore waters for the generation of income. In addition all scientific findings will be used as baseline information for the future development of mariculture research in the country.
