Pearl farming trials were conducted by the WorldFish Center in conjuction with the Ministry of Fisheries. The pearl farming trials demonstrated the feasibility of farming in Solomon Islands. Several pearl harvests were achieved from spat collected from the wild.
The next phase of this project is to encourage private sector interests to undertake commercial expansion.
