Thursday 05 March 2012, Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), Suva –

A three-day planning exercise was an opportunity for CETC staff and management to reflect on last year’s achievements and discuss the way forward for this year, continuing to strive for excellence in community development initiatives at the Centre.

Twelve permanent staff attended the retreat, which was held at the CETC Campus in Narere from the 15–17 February. The aim was to share opinions, seek explanations, listen with open minds and contribute constructively.

The staff were given an opportunity to work as a team and discuss key operational and programme issues and challenges from 2011, and make suggestions as to how the challenges could be overcome.

Juliet recalls attending CETCs seven-month training programme in 2000 as a 22 year old with no community development experience, and returning to her community seven months later with a wealth of knowledge and the confidence to educate the women and children in her community on ways to utilise their resources in a sustainable way.

Juliet said, ‘CETC is more than a training centre that has taught me a lot of skills to help my community; coming back here I feel as if I am coming home.
