The European Union funded South Pacific Yam Project (SPYN) is managed by CIRAD with PNG, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Fiji, SPC, NRI and University of Reading as collaborators. This project that started in 1999 will collect and describe disease resistant yam cultivars.

The SPC Regional Germplasm Centre plays a key role in the preparation and distribution of the promising yam cultivars for testing and trials in the collaborating countries.

Anthranose resistant yam with commercial potential will be provided to the region
