        FSM   In FSM : to run the advanced FSM population GIS workshop, Pohnpei, 16-20 february 2004; Install or give participants an install CD with a trial edition of the Population GIS for them to use and evaluate for a period of 4 months; Organise the retrieval of data from further in country sources (namely Lands and Survey: Aerial Photography and Health information) for inclusion in the Population GIS; Discuss with the in-country administrator and statistics specialist on how the FSM Population GIS can be utilised (mapping) in planning for the upcoming household income expenditure survey planned for later this year.

29 March -        2 April   Vanuatu   Gerald Haberkorn & Scott Pontifex   Vanuatu GIS workshop #3 introduced the first prototype of the Vanuatu Population GIS system. The retrieval of data from various sources for inclusion in the Population GIS was organised, and we worked with the Department of Provincial Planning on new Area Council boundary definitions.

29 May - 5 June   Tonga   Gerald Haberkorn   To assist Tonga Statistics office with preparatory work/planning for 2006 census, and while there, also run popGIS information seminar with planning and statistics offices, and obtain spatial data for Tonga Population GIS work in 2005/2006.

Visit UN Population Division to debrief on SPC program activities in Pacific and review areas of possible technical collaboration (9-10.09). While in NY, also use opportunity to visit UNFPA to debrief Asia-Pacific Division on programme activities and upcoming UNFPA project execution.

11 - 17 October   Timor-Leste

 

  Gerald Haberkorn Arthur Jorari   At Invitation of Director of Timor-Leste Statistics Directorate and UNFPA/Timor, assist Timor office in developing plan for census data processing and analysis; give seminar on best-practice/ experience in Pacific island countries; advice on developing effective census output/products and dissemination strategy; provide hands-on advice and assistance with census data procession and tabulation, using CSPro, and assist in developing tabulation plan; review possible areas of future collaboration on these and related activities with relevant SPC program areas.
