Short-term professional attachments to the Population / Demography program

For several years now, the Population/Demography program has hosted short-term professional attachments for Pacific island demographers, statisticians, policy analysts and planners, to work with program staff on short-term technical assignments of relevance to their country and home agency’s needs.

Assignments over the years have included the

• Preparation of national population analyses and country profiles,

• Demographic analyses of national censuses,

• Population projections

• Creation of demographic and social atlases.

Under the current population GIS project, which was funded by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, two years of technical assistance were provided to train staff from participating countries, who would spend between 2 and 4 weeks with the program in Noumea, to design/build/refine national population databases underpinning their national population GIS systems.
