PTSC (Project Technical Steering Committee) meetings 02/03

The first meeting of this committee was held on 29th November 2002, in Noumea, New Caledonia. The key function of the Project Technical Steering Committee is to ensure project design and development addresses the project's principal objective to increase the use of sub-national population and socio-economic data and the technical capacity of National Statistical Offices in the four pilot countries (Vanuatu, Kiribati, Samoa and FSM).

Committee membership included representation from DFID, USP, SOPAC, UNFPA, Heads of NSOs from Vanuatu and Kiribati, and the former Demographer. With this meeting representing the first steering committee, SPC invited the incoming Demographer to attend as an observer. Likewise, Samoa's Deputy Government Statistician who happened to be on a professional attachment with our program, was also invited to attend this meeting as an observer.

The second meeting (and last meeting of the current project) of the committee was held on 11th June 2003, in Noumea, New Caledonia. As per the project agreement with our principal donor agency (DFID) also stipulates that the PTSC meant to comprise one delegate from the Statistics or Planning department in each project country, the Directors of Planning (Samoa and Vanuatu) and Head of Statistics Offices (for all four project countries) were invited to this meeting. This ensures a dialogue that addresses the needs of both producers and users of socio-economic data and information.
