Improving animal disease surveillance in the Pacific region

The SPC Animal Health and Production team of the Land Resources Division , in partnership with James Cook University, Townsville, Australia, is conducting a workshop on epidemiology from 11 to 13 April at SPC’s Suva office. The aim is to build capacity in practical field epidemiology in order to improve animal disease surveillance, initially in four Pacific countries.

Revisiting the tools of participatory rural appraisal

Research and extension staff of the Fiji Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forests last week joined their counterparts from three SPC divisions – Land Resources Division (LRD), Applied Geoscience and Technology Division, and Strategic Engagement, Policy and Planning Facility – in a workshop to polish their skills of applying participatory rural appraisal (PRA) tools, analysing results, and developing adaptation strategies.

SPC signs AUD 18 million funding agreement with Australia

Mr John Davidson, Australian Minister Counsellor, Pacific for AusAID and Dr Jimmie Rodgers, Director-General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), signed a new grant agreement that continues Australia’s partnership with SPC for sustainable development of the Pacific.
