Workshop improves understanding of international trade standards in Niue

Member countries look forward to putting into action commitments to gender mainstreaming

‘As an analyst, we need to ensure that broad national policies are linked to action – gender analysis needs to be reflected in these policies and in national implementation,’ said John Ezra, Senior Policy Analyst in the Ministry of Strategic Policy, Planning and Aid Coordination in Vanuatu. Six member countries of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community met in Nadi last week (14–16 May) to initiate the second phase of national stocktakes of institutional capacity for gender mainstreaming in Pacific Island countries and territories.

Solomon Islands Public Service Commission promotes gender mainstreaming awareness for all permanent secretaries

‘If we want to make any credible changes, we need to change our behaviours because we hold such important positions in the Solomon Islands government. We need to lead by example. Solomon Islands has a bright future; the Public Service of Solomon Islands has a bright future. We need to build on this and not lose hope. We have the power to change any discriminatory attitudes but this change must start with us,’ said the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Eliam Tangirongo.

SPC Land Resources Division (NP) assists with organic certification in Pohnpei

SPC Land Resources Division’s North Pacific Office (LRD-NP), based in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), has been working to introduce the first organic certification for a food crop in FSM.  Mr Sei Uemoto, a Pohnpei black pepper farmer, is on track to being the first certified organic farmer in Pohnpei, with the assistance of LRD-NP, the Pacific Organic Ethical Trade Community (POETCom) and other partners in Pohnpei.
