New Zealand and SPC sign grant agreement

Within days of taking up her appointment as New Zealand’s new Consul-General to New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna, H. E. Linda Te Puni performed one of her first official engagements with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) by signing New Zealand’s grant agreement totaling NZD 2.155 million with SPC’s Director-General, Dr Jimmie Rodgers on Thursday 1 March 2012 at SPC headquarters in Noumea, New Caledonia.


The grant agreement constitutes part of the New Zealand Government’s support to the work provided by SPC to its island members in 2012 and is in addition to its assessed membership contribution.

The funds provided under the grant agreement will support the following SPC programmes in implementing specific interventions in a number of Pacific Island countries and territories.
 

Public Health Surveillance, Research and Control programme         NZD    295,000
Oceanic Fisheries Programme NZD    395,000
Coastal Fisheries Programme NZD    305,000
Agriculture NZD    200,000
Statistics NZD    250,000
Ocean Science NZD    710,000
TOTAL NZD 2,155,000


All of SPC’s 22 member island countries and territories will receive benefit from the support to the Public Health Surveillance, Research and Control programme. The following member countries and territories will derive benefit from the other five programmes: Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Pitcairn, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

The Secretariat will furnish the New Zealand Government with a complete report on the activities carried out and results achieved under this grant agreement by 31 March 2013.
