Value chains to develop the coconut industry
The Pacific Community (SPC) in collaboration with the European Union and the ACP Secretariat will launch a market study titled An overview of the market for Pacific island coconut products and the ability of industries to respond. During the launch event, SPC will award selected pilot projects through the Coconut Industry Development for the Pacific (CIDP) Project. The launch will take place during the CIDP project steering committee meeting, at the Melanesian Hotel on the 25-26 January. The following are key points of interest to media:
- CIDP project is awarding financial support to 6 private sector enterprises, for pilot projects in Samoa and Vanuatu;
- The market study will highlight the most important and viable market opportunities for coconut producers and processors across the Pacific.
CIDP is a joint programme of the Pacific Community (SPC), the European Union and the ACP Secretariat. The aim of CIDP is to bolster the coconut sector in the region through improving the competitiveness of small producers engaged in the coconut value chains and strengthening regional integration of related markets and the intensification of production. The project runs through to 2019 and has a value of EUR 4 million.
