About SPC FAME

Providing scientific and technical expertise to support fisheries management and sustainable development in the Pacific for over 60 years

The Pacific Communities' FAME Division provides SPC member countries and territories with the information needed to make informed decisions on the management and development of their marine and aquatic resources. Our role is to serve our members’ needs through generating scientific evidence and knowledge and innovation, enhancing individual and institutional capacity, and building trusted relationships in culturally and contextually responsive ways to support sustainable management of regional and national fisheries and aquaculture resources.

Our goal is that the fisheries and aquaculture resources of the Pacific region are resilient and managed sustainably for economic growth, food security, and cultural and environmental conservation. Our journey towards this goal is guided by our Business Plan, which is consistent with national priorities, regional frameworks, and SPC's Strategic Plan.

SPC FAME has two programmes: the Coastal Fisheries and Aquaculture Programme (CFAP), and the Oceanic Fisheries Programme (OFP). Our wide range of key work areas across these programmes reflect the challenges faced in managing and developing Pacific aquatic resources, as well as the breadth of expertise of our staff. These progammes are supported by the Director’s Office which provides strategy development; information and knowledge management; stakeholder engagement; communication; resource mobilisation; and monitoring, evaluation and learning as part of One SPC.

Working with all 22 Pacific Island countries and territories, SPC FAME has strong partnerships with regional, subregional, and national entities in the marine and aquaculture sectors.
