The current Secretariat comprising of a Coordinator, Project Officer, Finance Assistant and Project Assistant is tasked with providing administrative services to the Executive Committee and coordinating the implementation of PPAPD activities. It is based at the SPC Suva Regional Office in Nabua, Fiji Islands. At the 2007 meeting of the PPAPD General Assembly, it was agreed that SPC and UNFPA would co-host the Secretariat for up to four years, within which time it would be strengthened to run independently and ultimately be hosted by one of the member countries on a more permanent basis.
The PPAPD Secretariat in cooperation with UNFPA developed an integrated Work Plan aimed at implementing the PPAPD mandates and is currently raising additional resources for the effective implementation of the Work Plan. The Finance Assistant and Project Assistant positions are shared with the SPC/UNFPA-funded Adolescent Health and Development Project
In November 2007, the PPAPD Executive Committee at their Annual Meeting held in Apia, Samoa agreed to a merger of the PPAPD Secretariat with that of FPOCC in response to a submission from the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS).
It was noted that while the two bodies hold annual (FPOCC) and biennial (PPAPD) meetings and focus on separate issues, the meetings engage the same participants, i.e. parliamentary speakers; in the case of FPOCC, parliamentary clerks also participate.
The joint Secretariat is aptly named the “PPAPD-FPOCC Secretariat”.
The PPAPD Executive Committee at the above meeting also agreed to serve as the Executive Committee for both PPAPD and FPOCC.
