25 FEBRUARY 2009 HONIARA (Pacnews) ---- The Solomon Islands Government and Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) are expected to conclude their Partnership Agreement in the coming weeks, reports Solomon Star.

The agreement will provide a clear indication of the areas in which RAMSI will work with the Government. This will cover RAMSI’s objectives and targets and provide some indicative timelines for the achievement of those targets.

RAMSI Special Coordinator, Graeme Wilson said it will be an excellent way of measuring RAMSI’s progress in the Pacific nation

“At the same time, we really do benefit from the oversight that is provided by the Pacific Islands Forum,” Mr Wilson said.

“We’re hopeful that the next meeting of the Forum Ministerial Standing Committee will take place in the coming months. At that meeting we’ll be able to sign this Partnership Framework Agreement between the Solomon Islands Government and RAMSI,” Mr Wilson said.

RAMSI was brought into the country under the Biketawa Agreement of the Pacific Islands Forum to restore law and order.

The Foreign Relations Committee is currently carrying out a review of the mission It is doing that by getting views from leaders, chiefs and ordinary people.

They have already covered Guadalcanal, Malaita, Western and Choiseul provinces……PNS (ENDS)
