New NCDs co-ordinator for CNMI

A special co-ordinator position to be filled in 2010 will help the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas better manage its efforts to control non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Funded under a three-year AUD$300,000 agreement between SPC and CNMI Department of Public Health in partnership with the Northern Marianas College, the NCDs Co-ordinator will meet with all the different stakeholders battling NCDs to make sure there are no duplication of efforts and that each partner is contributing where they can. The agreement—based on CNMI's 2010-2013 NCD national plan—was reached at SPC in Noumea in December 2009 with CNMI representatives Patricia Coleman, second right, of Northern Marianas College, and Tanya Belyeu-Camacho, second from left, Diabetes Prevention and Control Program Co-ordinator with the CNMI Department of Health. NCDs Adviser/Physical Activity, Dr Si Thu Win Tin, left represented SPC. Also pictured are SPC NCDs Adviser/Nutrition Karen Fukofuka, third from left, SPC HPL Project Administrator Daniel Taboga, centre, and HPL Communications Officer Richard Thomson, right.
