Definition Aquaculture refers to both freshwater and marine culture.
Calculation/Formula "The sum of total aquaculture production in volume (t) by product (finfish, fish, prawns, clams, corals, seaweed, pearls, etc) x average farm gate price per product OR (Q1 x P1) + (Q2 x P2) + ....+ (Qn x Pn) Where: Q = annual production (t); and P = price (USD/t)"

Purpose/Rationale To estimate the total aquaculture production by value and estimate the contribution of aquaculture to GDP. To monitor change in production over time.

Primary Data Collection System Survey - SPC contacting national ministries and agencies
Frequency of Data Collection Country dependent for creel and market surveys (some ongoing, some never). Gillet publications have occurred twice (2009 & 2011).
Other agencies countries_ must report to: FAO collect annual statistics. ADB / FAO publications - Fisheries Contribution to the Pacific Island Countries and Territories (written by Robert Gillet in 2009 & 2011).
