Arrangements

proceeding

the
July
5th
-
12th
Standing
Committee
Meeting
and
more
than
20
participants
have
already
confirmed
their
intention
to
particpate.
Advice
is
offered
below
on
some
of
the
organizational
aspects
of
the meeting.

Visa
requirements
A
visa
to
enter
New
Caledonia
is
required
except
for
citizens of
Australia,
Canada,
Japan,
New
Zealand
(and
NZ
passport
holders),
USA
(and
US
passport
holders)
and
EU
countries,
and
should
be
obtained
prior
to
departure.
French
embassies/
consultates
are
situated
in
Fiji
(Suva),
PNG
(Port
Moresby)
and
Vanuatu
(Port
Vila).
For
delegates
from
FSM,
Kiribati,
Marshall
Islands,
Nauru,
Palau,
Tonga,
Tuvalu,
and
Samoa,
arrangements
will
be
made
for
a
visa
to
be
issued
on
arrival.

Other
matters
No
new
items

the
consideration
of
SCTB
were
provided
by
the
recent
MHLC

in
Honlulu,
although
the
Chairman's
draft
Resolution
of
April
19th
does
provide
some
guidance
for
SCTB
in
providing
that
"the
Preparatory
Conference
may
obtain
scientific
advice
from
the
Standing
Committee
on
Tuna
and
Billfish.
To
the
extent
practicable,
the
Standing
Committee
should
function
for
this
purpose
in
accordance
with
Articles
11
and
12
of
the
Convention."
The
preparatory
work
of
the
Statistics
Working
Group
and
the
Research
Groups
is
proceeding.although
several
of
the
RGs
still
require
the
appointment
of
new
Coordinators
following
the
unavailability
or
retirement
of
several
distinguished
Coordinators.
Efforts
to
locate
funding
to
fully
support
the
participation
of
PIN
scientists
are
continuing
and
have
been
greatly
assisted
by
a
recent
decision
of
the
Republic
of
Korea
to
provide
USD
30,000
to
the
Secretariat
for
this
purpose
Final
advice
on
the
level
of
support
will
be
provided
in
the
near
future
to
PINs.
