South Pacific epidemiological and health information services (SPEHIS) were
provided by the PHS&CDC section in the format of annual reports (since 1974)
and monthly reports (since 1990). You will find the
reports below.
With the creation of the Pacific Public Health
Surveillance Network (PPHSN) in 1996 and the role our section played in the
development of the network, the routine SPEHIS data collection did temporarily
not stand among the top priorities, and was stopped (or rather discontinued).
This year (2005), our SPC team expect to resume the CD data collection, taking
advantage of the progresses in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
For continuity purposes, we will resume the
data collection retrospectively as from 2000 (SPEHIS has collected data until
1999), and initiate a prospective data collection as from 2006 or 2007. The
retrospective data collection will allow us to build the communicable disease
database–according to the
data available from each country.
