29 APRIL 2009 APIA (Pacnews) ---- Samoa’s Quarantine Division has been issued an alert to look into the swine flu currently causing concern overseas, chief executive Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Asuao Kirifi Pouono, said, reports Samoa Observer

“But yes, it’s a concern to us,” Asuao said. Confirmation is being sought about whether or not the swine flu has reached New Zealand, he said.

Mr Asuao believes most of the pork products imported into Samoa come from New Zealand.

He said there are possible actions that can be taken.

The “worst case scenario” would be the importation of pork products.

Yesterday the Ministry of Health issued a notice saying it has increased readiness against the flu.

“The Ministry of Health is on alert and is prepared should the Swine Influenza (H1N1) enter Samoa’s borders,” the notice said ….PNS (ENDS)
