Cook Islands Demographic Profile 1996-2002

This Cook Islands demographic profile is to make demographic and population data more accessible to planners, policy analyst and decision makers. This report represents the demographic, social and economic characteristics of the Cook Islands and is based on the 2001 Population Census and also draws on health administrative records.

This report provides an analysis of available Cook Islands demographic data. It also identifies the implication of observed demographic levels and trends on cross-cutting issues such as the environment, health, education and economic activity. It provides a measure of our country's developments at a particular point in its national history and shows its development over time.

The Government and people of the Cook Islands acknowledge the invaluable assistance of the Demography/Population Programme of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), particularly the assistance provided by Mr Andreas Demmke in producing this profile.

We are confident that you will find the profile user friendly, and helpful in addressing the priority issues facing the Cook Islands.
