Building Statistics, Quarter 2 2011

Building Statistics covers Building Permits and Completion Certificates issued is compiled
using information supplied by the City, Town Councils and Rural Local Authorities.
Users of Building Statistics should exercise caution in interpreting statistics relating to the
Building Permits and the Completion Certificates issued for specific periods due to the time lag
between the Building Permit issued and the Completion Certificate issued.
Building Permits Issued
A total of 333 Building Permits for construction work valued at $34.6 million were issued in Quarter 2, 2011
Compared to Quarter 1, 2011 there was a 11.0 per cent increase in the number of permits issued while total valuation for building works approved decreased by 52.3 per cent.
Of the $34.6 million in building works approved, 33.5 per cent were for Private Dwellings, 54.3 per cent were for Other Buildings and the remaining 12.2 per cent were for
Alterations and Miscellaneous work. Building Permits issued for Commercial buildings and Hotels contributed significantly to the Non Private dwellings component.
Of the total number of Building Permits issued, 44.1 per cent with a value of $18.6 million were issued for the Central Division, 46.0 per cent with a value of $14.3 million
were issued for the Western Division and 9.9 per cent with a value of $1.7 million were issued for the Northern and Eastern Divisions.
Completion Certificates Issued
A total of 100 Completion Certificates with a value of $12.1 million were issued in Quarter 2, 2011.
Compared to Quarter 1, 2011 this was 9.9 per cent lower in the number of completion certificate issued and a decline of 4.6 per cent in their value
Of the $12.1 million in building works completed, 29.6 per cent were for Private Dwellings, 62.8 per cent were for Other Buildings and the remaining 7.6 per cent were for
Alterations and Miscellaneous work. Completion Certificates issued for Commercial Buildings contributed significantly to the Non Private dwellings component
Of the total number of Completion Certificates issued 42.0 per cent with a value of $3.9 million were for the Central Division, 47.0 per cent with a value of $7.7 million were for
the Western Division and 11.0 per cent with a value of $0.5 million were for the Northern and Eastern Divisions.
