A lot of progress has been made by the Kiribati National Economic Planning Office towards compiling the MDG indicators and writing of the country's national report on MDG.
An MDG task force was set up comprising the ministries: Ministry of Finance and Economic Development; Ministry of Environment, Lands and Agriculture Dceveleopment; Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration; Minsitry of Health and Medical Services; Ministry of Education Youth and Sports; Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Ministry of Communication, Transport and Tourism Development.
A series of meetings have been held by this task force during which data gaps are identified and provide advice on how these gaps can be addressed, perform general checks on the quality of the indicators currently available and monitors overall national progress on this initiative.
The initial plan was to hire an external consultant who will work with a local counter-part to write up the country's national MDG report. This has not been possible due to funding limitations
The National Economic Planning Office is now taking on the role to compile the report. The reviwing of the data for each targets is now complete and a start has been made in compiling the mdg indicators and writing of the report. A draft report is expected to be completed by end of August, 2006.
