RMI PopGIS
The Economic Policy, Planning and Statistics Office (EPPSO) has been in the forefront of recent improvements in the areas of statistical data collection, compilation and interpretation since its inception in 2003. This has included the introduction and development of Geographical Information System (GIS) application which to date has contributed significant improvements to statistical activities undertaken by the EPPSO.
With the strong and continous technical and training support from SPC, EPPSO has been very effective in providing assistance to other departments and agencies with the use of GIS application.
Since 2003, EPPSO have successfully used the PopGIS in a number of areas such as the 2006 Community Survey and Demographic and Health Survey - 2007. This type of service will continue and even improved with the use of more advanced technologies.
Outputs from the GIS application using the latest census of population (1999) include a population atlas and a geographical analysis of key social, environment and economic statistics of the country as well as geographic maps of the 2006 RMI Community and Socio–Economic Survey. These reports (in pdf format) can be viewd or downloaded. See links below.
