Niue in terms of international trading is just as small as its physical existence- a microstate with an average import value of NZ$4.3M per annum and an average export value of NZ$0.27M. Niue has a scarce natural resource-base for the production of goods and/or services to replace some of the imports nor/and to maximise the production of goods for exports. Compounded by its geographic remoteness Niue is very dependable on its trading partners for the provision of goods and/or services. Niue import 4 times more than it export.
