Household Income and Expenditure Survey 2002
Tabulation Report
In August - October 2002, the Samoa Statistical Division conducted the second Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES)
co-funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Samoa. The first survey of this kind was conducted in 1997.
This survey collected information on Income and Expenditure of sampled households in order to provide information on the
economic characteristics of all households in Samoa with the main objectives of the survey:
(i) To adjust the weights of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) using the household expenditure pattern of Samoa households and;
(ii) To provide data to determine the extend of hardship and vulnerability
households in Samoa.
The 2002 HIES took advantages of the experiences gained and lesson learned from 1997 exercise. As a result, field supervision was
greatly improved and monitored despite operating on a reduced budget.
