CISO is currently hosting one of the two MFEM Young Achievers (YA) Ms Edwina Matenga. The YA Programme with MFEM is about recruiting school leavers and placing them on three-months rotational basis attachments, with all sections within the ministry. The aim of the attachments are to gain work experience in all MFEM divisions and to assist with identifying where it would be best to place the young achievers at the end of this one-year programme. Before the attachment to CISO, Edwina was placed with the Finance and the Aid Management division.
Edwina has been with CISO for six weeks and during this month she has assisted with data collection for Population estimates, Tourism accommodation statistics and Consumer Price Index. Before the data collection activities Edwina’s weekly schedules involved one-to-one overview sessions with CISO staff on processes relative to producing ongoing statistical outputs with emphasis on data confidentiality and data quality throughout these sessions.
Edwina says that, "the sessions are informative and gives me a better understanding of CISO and its role within the ministry, nationally and internationally. With this attachment there is direction. The CISO mentor Ms Michelle Aisake in collaboration with CISO staff has weekly schedules drawn up with the involvement of all staff in imparting knowledge of statistical activities to me".
Edwina will move to the Revenue Management division early in November while YA Mr Edward Parker will be moving to CISO.
We wish our young achievers all the best in their future endeavours and good luck to Edwina in representing the Cook Islands in soccer at the Samoa South Pacific Games later this month.
