The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Fiji

Fiji joins its neighbouring countries to commit itself to implementing the Millenniumm Development Goals (MDGs). This came about after the Millennium declaration was ratified by 189 heads of state at the United Nations Millennium Summit in September 2000. Regional heads of governments further re-inforced their committment to this inniative during recent regional leaders meetings. To date, significant progress has been made to implement the MDG frame work within the country. With the collaboration of different sectors within the community, Fiji through the National Planning Office came up with its first MDG National Report.

Fiji's National MDG Report

This Report, provides the status of Fiji’s implementation as regards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Fiji is party to the Millennium Declaration of 2000 and is committed to achieving the MDG targets by the year 2015. The country has incorporated the MDGs in the Strategic Development Plan (SDP) 2003-2005, after the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg in 2002. These goals are included in the Government’s Plan to ensure that national policies are consistent with the MDGs and the Plan of Implementation on Sustainable Development adopted in Johannesburg in 2002.

The compilation of this comprehensive report has been made possible with inputs from different government departments. FIBOS would like to acknowledge the National Planning Office for agreeing to have this report available through it's national website. FIBOS will continue to liaise with the National Planning Office to ensure any updates to the report are reflected in this published copy.
