IMF Technical Assistance to CISO

As part of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Statistics Department technical assistance program, and in cooperation with the Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Centre (PFTAC), Mr Ron Pearson was currently with CISO for a monetary and financial statistics mission. Pearson was here from the 17 – 21 September 2007.

The main aims of this mission was to:

- Discuss recent developments in the financial system;
- Review the procedures adopted by CISO for collecting, compiling, and dissemination
  of monetary and financial statistics;
- Assess the quality of data reported by financial corporations to CISO;
- Ensure that the monetary and financial statistics are fully aligned with the Monetary
  and Financial Statistics Manual; and
- Discuss the modalities for introducing, in the near future, a country page for the Cook
  Islands in IMF’s monthly statistical publication the “International Financial Statistics”.

This was Pearson’s first visit to the Cook Islands and he had held discussion sessions with the three CISO staff involved in the production of statistics relevant to this mission. Pearson also visited the Financial Supervisory Commission and met with the Financial Secretary, Mr Sholan Ivaiti. .
