2006 Population Census - Provisional Results
According to the provisional results, Cook Islands total population as enumerated from 1 December 2006, stood at 19,569 people, an increase of 8.6% compared to the last census count conducted in 2001. There were 9,932 men and 9,637 women.

taxation statistics
Gross Turnover for March quarter 2007 decreased by 13.2% when compared to the previous quarter but increased by 5.8% when compared to March quarter 2006.
Banking statistics
Total lending for March quarter 2007 increased by 9.6% over the previous quarter.

Total estimated population for the December quarter 2006 was 19,800. Total birth registered over the same period was 55, an average of 5 births per week.
consumer price index
Over the 12 months to December 2006 quarter the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 1.7% with the “underlying CPI” increasing at a slower rate of 0.1%.
overseas trade
Total exports for December quarter 2006 increased by $0.8 million over the previous quarter with Japan as the dominant market for exports with a share of 57.0% followed by New Zealand with 35.2%
