2005/2006
During 2000 to 2005 the value of imports to the FSM exceeded the value of exports. The trade deficit was highest in 2004 when value of imports exceeded exports by about $118 million.
Food and beverage imports total to $41 million (29.8% of total imports) in 2005. Rice, poultry meat, canned fish, and beer topped the list of food imports.
The biggest item of exports in 2005 was offshore fish, at an estimated value of $13.7 million (91% of total exports). Other major items of exports include reef fish ($0.5 million) and betelnut ($0.4 million) and reef f. Main recipient countries of FSM exports were Japan ($2.0 million) and Guam ($1.1 million).
