Tourism and Migration
Foreign visitor arrivals averaged to about 17,500 annually
between 1997 and 2005. Visitor arrivals peaked at 20,501 in 2000.
Tourism and visitors (to friends and relatives) were the main reasons for
foreign visitor arrivals into the FSM. In 2005 this group comprised about
71%
of total arrivals. Additionally, most of the visitors were of USA and Japan citizenship, about
39% and 20%,
respectively.
