Demographic Health Survey - 2007
Analysis of the survey results
Preparation is currently underway for the analysis of the Demographic Health Survey (DHS) results. Two expert staff from the SPC Statistics and Demography Programme (SDP) will be undertaking this analysis with the EPPSO over a three week period commencing in mid November 2007. This exercise will focus on the demographic aspects of the survey while analysis of the health components will be done by the department of health with assistance from UNFPA.
RMI was part of a pilot project with Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Nauru because this type of survey (DHS) has only been attempted in the larger Pacific Island Countries (Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Fiji). Funding for this project was provided by the Asian Development Bank, AusAid and NZAid with technical assistance from Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Capacity building
Strengthening NSO capacities has been a priority for the SPC SDP in its ongoing training and technical services to countries to ensure NSOs are equipped with appropriate skills in areas such as 'analysis' of survey and census results. A key activity during this exercise is to ensure maximum skills transfer to the local counter parts.
Ms Hemline Y, project manager and Mr John Henry, project data processing manager will be counter parts to the SPC experts in udertaking this analysis exercise.
Expected output
A draft demographic report including key selected demographic tables will be produced at the end of the three weeks assistance. This report will be circulated to relevant national authorities for further commenst before it is finalised.
Progress on activities for this survey will regularly be updated in this website.
