NATIONAL STATISTICS HOSTS IN-COUNTRY TRAINING ON DARW
The National Statistics Office is currently hosting a training course on 'Data Analysis and Reporting Writing', jointly organised by the Office and the SPC Statistics and Demography Programme (SDP) and conducted by Mr. Greg Keeble, Statistical Training Specialist of the SDP.
The course will run for 4 weeks full time, beginning Monday 2 to 27 June 2008 and targetting up to 12-15 participants from government departments and agencies. Paricipants selected must at least have some experience in collecting and analysing statistics in their work area or have attended similar courses in the past.
The course cover a wide range of topics including:
A key component of the training is the 'project work' where each participant is expected to produce a report on a certain topic and presenting it at the end of the training. The project is based on participant's own dataset relating to their work. This project work accounts for around 60% of the training duration.
The last similar training was conducted in 1998 that saw very encouraging results. A number of departments have made good use of the skills learnt. A number of reports ahve been produced as a result of this. This training is a follow up to the first one as a refresher for those who have already attended and enhance skills in analysing data and reporting for those attending dor the first time.
The training is conducted following a request for such assistance from the Vanuatu National Statistics Office.
