OCR TRAINING IN PREPARATION FOR 2009 Population and Housing Census

SPC STATISTICS AND DEMOGRAPHY PROGRAMME (SDP) TEAM - HOST OCR TRAINING

The Vanuatu National Statistics Office is taking a major leap into Information Technology where it is advancing into automating its Data Entry Operations into Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

As such, a Technical Training was hosted by the SPC (Secretariat of the Pacific Community) where the Supplier of the said Technology (OCR) demonstrated the Technical Administrative site of the product. The major reason for the training was to enable the SPC to manage and support the technology regionally (in the SPC member countries who adopted the technology).

The VNSO IT Manager represented the office to attend the Technical Training along with the SPC Demography and Statistics IT Programmers. The training commences from 05^th October and ends on the 10^th October 2008.

The trained team is currently working together to setup the OCR and the GPS System at the Vanuatu National Statistics Office to be used in the upcoming 2009 Population and Housing Census.
