Population Geographical Information System (PopGIS)
Vanuatu is one of those first few countries who benefited from this new technology. On the left is a list of a few selected maps produced by province featuring different types of indicators using the 1999 population census data. A useful report also produced from this system is the "Population Atlas" which provides maps of each island with a summary of population characteristics and other information for those islands. This report will be available on-line once it is finalised.
The system can be expanded by adding other information collected from other sources such as sample surveys. This is a priority area that Office will be moving into as results from the Household Income and Expenditure Survey conducted in 2006 and Agriculture Census currently in progress become available.
