Activities

Consistency and synergy are expected between policies and action pursued by the Southern Province departments and the Mont-Dore and Yate municipal authorities on one side and the INTEGRE action plan for the site located on the Great South on the other, as both INTEGRE and RESCCUE projects were designed to complement each other on joint sites.

The activities in the Southern Province are detailed below.

Support to the Southern Province and local authorities for sustainable development on the Great South

RESCCUE is helping to improve land use planning on the Great South, for which the Southern Province exercises overall responsibility.  It is doing so by providing support to the local authorities by integrating them in multi-stakeholder participatory processes, which are vital for sustainably managing such an environment.

The Great Southern Lagoon already has a management plan spanning 2013-2017 and so developing an Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) plan for the Great South consists of helping manage the following areas:

Also, as fire management is a major, cross-sector issue for all four of these areas, RESCCUE, in partnership with INTEGRE, is also helping develop and implement the Great South Mountain Range Plan to improve bush fire control by, inter alia, testing pilot field activities (e.g. a mobile fire spotter team) and setting up adequate equipment, such as water tanks.

Awareness and training was organised for various site stakeholders so as to successfully carry out the above activities and strengthen the sustainability of the results obtained and management methods introduced.

Using the economic “toolbox” for the conservation and sustainable development of the Great South

Firstly, RESCCUE is striving to improve the way decision-makers use economic analysis by:

A policy brief discusses how these economic analyses are/can be used by the different relevant stakeholders.

Secondly, RESCCUE is providing support for developing innovative economic and financial mechanisms for protecting and developing the Great South.  An in-depth feasibility study explored the various possible mechanisms and is now available for use by the Province.
