Future directions for evidence-based decision making in the Pacific The Secretariat of the Pacific Community is pleased to advise Governments and Administrations that the Regional Meeting of the Heads of Planning and Heads of Statistics (HOPS) will be held in Noumea, New Caledonia from Monday, 17 September to Friday, 21 September 2007. The theme of this meeting is “Future directions for evidence-based decision making in the Pacific”. |

SDP and EPPSO (Economic Planning, Policy and Statistics Office, RMI) have recently published the first Population Atlas for the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The Atlas was created to meet a demand by the Marshall Islands Government for more readily accessible and understandable socio-demographic information, at both atoll and village/islet levels. Population and housing censuses are usually the main data source for such information in Pacific Island countries, and results from the most recent Marshall Islands census (1999) were the main source of information for the atlas. Some results from the 2006 Community Survey were also included, to give users a more up-to-date look at key social, demographic and economic features of the Marshall Islands population.

“Translating theory into practise in the Pacific context”
The Secretariat of the Pacific Community is pleased to advise Governments and Administrations that a Regional Poverty Analysis Technical Workshop will be held in Noumea, New Caledonia on Saturday 22 September 2007. The timing of the workshop will enable invited participants, Heads of Statistics representing Pacific Island ADB member countries (Cook Islands, Fiji, FSM, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, PNG, RMI, Samoa, Solomons, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu) attending the Regional Meeting of the Heads of Planning and Heads of Statistics (HOPS) from Monday, 17 September to Friday, 21 September 2007, to attend this workshop. |
