The TB Section has been collecting and analysing TB data since its inception in 1998. In 2009, Ministry of Health staff from 12 Pacific Island countries and territories submitted quarterly TB surveillance data to SPC on a standardised Excel form. These countries are: Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu. For the remaining Pacific Island countries and territories, SPC has reached an agreement with the World Health Organization (Western Pacific Office) that data will be collected by WHO on an annual basis and shared with SPC after it has been through the data verification process.
Data recording, reporting and analysis are key aspects of the TB Section’s capacity building and training activities. The TB Section maintains a regional TB database and publishes TB data annually in their annual TB surveillance reports. In addition, the TB Section undertakes regular monitoring and evaluation visits to Pacific Island countries and territories and provides national and regional level trainings on monitoring and evaluation and recording and reporting.
These data are analysed and published by SPC in SPC annual TB reports which are distributed to Ministries of Health in the Pacific Island countries and territories, and international partners. The published reports are posted under the publications section of this site.
