Pacific island fisheries observers independently collect data and information from tuna fishing vessels that harvest tuna in their countries exclusive economic zones (EEZ) They monitor the fishing vessels' activity and its catch. The valuable information and data they collect are used by fisheries scientists and managers to better monitor and manage tuna fisheries in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean. This video explains the many roles that observers play and demonstrates how that role is carried out on a working fishing boat.
