This show discussed why healthy and productive marine areas is good for tourism and how coastal communities can share the benefits. Many coastal communities depend on fishing as the main source of income. As cost-of-living increases, people are fishing more to sell for cash to pay for the things they need. This can lead to overfished and overharvested resources. Some coastal communities offer tourism activities like snorkelling, scuba diving, surfing and island picnics to bring in extra money they need which can reduce pressure on fishing and harvesting from the sea. Tourists want to see thriving coral reefs and clean beaches, and so tourism can offer real economic benefits for communities when their marine resources are managed sustainably.
