Location
Honolulu, HI, USA
Honolulu, Hawaii

The workshop aims to advocate ratification and appropriate implementation of the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue, 1979 (SAR 1979), and will provide an opportunity for SAR leaders and practitioners from across the Pacific Islands region, and interested government and non-governmental organisations to build relationships, share best practices, enhance understanding of regional SAR issues and new SAR technologies, and promote cooperative approaches which is clearly emphasised in the revised Convention.

The workshop also provides an opportunity for Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) to provide their updates on their progress in the areas around, SAR Governance, Coordination, Response and Prevention in response to the Pacific Search and Rescue Steering Committee (PACSAR SC) Strategic Plan 2017 – 2021.

The workshop is jointly organised by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and SPC, and co-hosted by the Government of the United States of America. IMO’s Integrated Technical Co-operation Programme (ITCP), United States of America and New Zealand with additional funding support from the Government of China, provide funding for this workshop.
