The Pacific Week of Agriculture (PWA) is a biennial event, the inaugural week having been hosted by the Government of Vanuatu in 2017. This year's host is the Government of Samoa. Within the PWA, SPC is hosting the second Special Session of the Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services (HoAFS) Meeting from 1 – 2 October. SPC then partners with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in hosting the second Joint Ministerial Meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry Services (MoAFS) on 4 October 2019 for endorsement of priorities identified from HoAFS. This formal consultation guides the work of SPC on agriculture and forests, allows consultation and progress reporting on SPC's Land Resources Division (LRD) Business Plan, and complements the current SPC Country Programming initiative. The scheduled meetings are also critical for regional discussion on coordination and envisioning activities for the marking of next year's inaugural (2020) UN International Year of Plant Health and for beginning conversation on the 2019 – 2028 UN Decade of Family Farming and the upcoming 2021 – 2030 UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

The week also acts as a knowledge sharing platform through Side Events where member countries, development partners, and networks, some in partnership with SPC, meet to share good practices, successes, and challenges overcome in order to improve agriculture and forests related outcomes contributing to national SDG outcomes through 'Enhanced Partnerships' (under the frame of SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals).

SPC's work in agriculture and forests is delivered through its Land Resources Division and includes the areas of genetic resources, forests and trees, sustainable land management, pest and disease management, biosecurity (quarantine), atoll agriculture, rural advisory services and extension, research, nutrition, organics, markets and livelihoods. These contribute to regional food and nutrition security, climate change adaptation efforts, resilience building, and economic livelihoods.
