Pacific Resilience Meeting 2021: Our people, our journey: Nurturing Pacific Resilience from Home

This week the Pacific Community (SPC), together with development partners, will host the biennial Pacific Resilience Meeting 2021, focussing on the theme ‘Our people, our journey: nurturing Pacific resilience from home’.

This meeting is set to convene more than 1500 participants from across the region including, climate scientists, traditional knowledge holders, youth representatives, civil society groups, partner organisations, private sector, media and global agencies that are guiding Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) towards a safer and more resilient Pacific.

The theme for this year’s event is Our people, Our journey: nurturing Pacific Resilience from home. This theme emphasises the need for locally led, Pacific driven resilience actions towards not only a safer Pacific but towards a safer and more resilient planet.

It will showcase how to nurture resilience at home; within the family, community, district, province, country, and region – sparking conversations around the shift towards locally-led resilience systems and ways to improve the regions risk communications capacity.

In-depth conversations around different facets of nurturing resilience in the Pacific will proposed including, building people-centred infrastructure to sustain post-COVID-19 boom, embedding a youth, gender and disability lens in all resilience work, embedding traditional knowledge and practices to strengthen resilience and weaving human rights into the work in the region.

The outcomes will guide the engagement of the Pacific region in the upcoming COP26 meetings and negotiations, facilitate priority areas towards the Asia-Pacific Ministerial on Disaster Risk Reduction (2022) and towards a Pacific Ministerial for Disaster Risk Management.
