Regional research agenda series: Meet our peer reviewers, Mr Naikatini and Ms Sumareke
This month, we are pleased to introduce more exceptional peer reviewers from our team.
Mr Alivereti Naikatini
Mr Naikatini is the Director of Research & Development, at the Ministry of Forestry, Fiji. With a Master of Science in Environmental Studies and Fiji as his research focus country, Mr Naikatini’s technical expertise is in Fijian flora, Terrestrial - Vegetation Ecology, and Fiji's forest birds. He is a highly experienced professional in biology and is currently pursuing a PhD in Biology at the University of the South Pacific.
Before his current role as the director of research and development for the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry in Fiji, he spent over 20 years as a senior technician at the South Pacific Regional Herbarium. Throughout his career, he has also worked in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, further expanding his expertise in the region.
Ms Agnes Mone Sumareke
Ms. Agnes Mone Sumareke is a highly experienced and qualified GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist currently affiliated with the PNG Forest Research Institute/PNG Forest Authority. With a Master of Science in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for NatRes Management, she has focused her research on the forests of PNG for over 20 years. Ms Sumareke's expertise lies in forest rehabilitation and restoration, specifically in utilising geospatial analysis to integrate GIS and Remote Sensing technologies for effective natural resource management.
She has published several papers on topics such as carbon stock assessment, biomass modelling, and fuelwood production systems. Additionally, Ms Sumareke possesses strong leadership abilities, and excellent networking and communication capabilities. With her extensive knowledge in the field, she is well-equipped to contribute to PNG’s forest research institutes' goals and objectives in forestry and forest research.
