Grants available for government, civil society and other gender equality projects

Photo: Crisis centres, women’s groups, civil society and other organisations, such as the Kiribati Women and Children Support Centre, are able to apply for grants being offered for gender equality projects in Pacific countries by the Pacific Community (SPC), through its Pacific Women Lead at SPC programme.

The Pacific Community (SPC) is offering grants for gender equality initiatives that support Pacific women and girls, in all their diversity, to be safe and equitably share in resources, opportunities and decision-making with men and boys.

Grants are being offered by the Pacific Women Lead (PWL) at SPC programme, known as PWL at SPC, supported by the Australian Government.

“These grants aim to support partners to implement Pacific regional gender equality commitments and contribute to Pacific Women Lead outcomes,” said Miles Young, Director for SPC’s Human Rights and Social Development (HRSD) division, home to PWL at SPC.

“As the grants can be significant – up to half a million Australian dollars – applicants are asked to meet the eligibility criteria detailed in SPC’s Guidelines for Applicants. For smaller and informal organisations who may not be eligible, the PWL at SPC programme team is working to connect them to other grant mechanisms that provide a better match – so no one is left behind.”

PWL at SPC is offering grants to civil society organisations including: women’s groups; social enterprises; academic or research institutions; statutory or state institutions; and national and regional coalitions for their gender equality initiatives. Until 6 December, applications are being accepted for these multi-year grants (up to 2 ½ years) are for AUD 100,000 to AUD 500,000 in financial support.

Full information about who can apply for these grants and what may be funded are detailed in the Guidelines for Applicants. It is important that applicants carefully read the Guidelines to assist them to understand the requirements and eligibility criteria, and access the Expression of Interest (EOI) online application form due for submission by 11:59 p.m. (Fiji time) on 6 December 2022.

Separately, SPC is also offering its member Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs) funding and technical support, being coordinated directly between governments and the PWL at SPC team.

Details are available on SPC’s HRSD website: https://hrsd.spc.int/node/1022 or by email [email protected].
