The Melanesia Regional Office represents SPC at the country level in Papua New Guinea (PNG), Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
The office supports SPC staff stationed in member states in the Melanesia region and locally recruited staff embedded in line ministries (from FAME, EQAP, RRRT, GEM, SDP and SDD), as requested by governments, as well as technical staff on duty travel from other SPC offices.
The Melanesia Regional Office facilitates the implementation of SPC country programmes for PNG, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The offices oversee the Solomon Islands Government‒SPC Country Programme, the PNG‒SPC Country Programme and the Vanuatu-SPC Country Programme. The Melanesia Regional Office also supports the implementation of SPC’s MOU with the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
Coordinates SPC services at the country level for PNG, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu
Provides support for Country Programmes in place for each of the members that run from 2019 to 2022.
Holds quarterly briefings with government ministries to review progress under MOU action plans, and discuss emerging issues
Attends donor coordination meetings with government planning departments and development partners active in countries, to assist coordination of aid, fostering collaboration and partnerships and to avoid duplication of services.
Provides logistical support is provided to SPC divisions to optimise service provision and integrated programming implementation.
The Micronesia Regional Office is the face of SPC at the country level in Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Republic of Palau (ROP), and US Territories of Guam and Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas (CNMI). The office encourages greater presence of SPC in the Micronesia region countries and territories through on the ground engagement, capacity building, workshops, and meetings.
The office team supports SPC staff stationed in member states in the Micronesia region and locally recruited staff embedded in line ministries and departments (from SPC technical divisions including RRRT, GEM, and SDP), as requested by governments, as well as technical staff on duty travel from other SPC offices.
The Micronesia Regional Office represents SPC at official meetings such as the Micronesia Presidents’ Summit (MPS) and the Micronesia Islands’ Forum (MIF).
Coordinates SPC services at the country level for Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Republic of Palau, Guam and CNMI with particular emphasis on the development of new country programmes.
Conducts regular meetings with government ministries and departments to develop and strengthen engagement, to discuss project development and implementation, and to address emerging issues with a view to better coordination and cooperation.
Participates in donor coordination meetings with governments and development partners to assist coordination of aid, fostering streamlining, collaboration and partnerships and to avoid duplication of services.
Provides a high level of assistance to SPC technical divisions to optimise service delivery, logistics for events, and integrated programming implementation for events such as the 2019 Tuna tagging cruise.
